Working TM and master TM (Translation Memory)

What are working TM and master TM?

A working TM stores translations in real-time as you translate within the Grid, whereas a master TM stores all finalized translations once a project is completed. After reviewing and approving translations in the working TM, you can merge it into the master TM.

Using a working TM helps create separate spaces for your TMs. This ensures that the master TM remains well-organized, containing only approved translations. Each working TM is specific to a single Grid, so TM terms from other projects or Grids won’t interfere.

      Enable working TM

You can enable working TM under Database settings:

      • Click next to a database that you would like to use the working TM.
      • Switch to the Localization setting tab.
      • Click the toggle Use working TM, then click Save.

Assign master TM to the database

To merge a working TM into the desired master TM, you need to assign the master TM to the database.

      • Click next to a database to use the working TM.
      • Switch to the Localization setting tab.
      • Select Master TM from the dropdown list.

      Access TM settings

      • On the project page, click the next to the company name, and select Localization settings, or open this link: https://app.gridly.com/localization/tm-new?tabs=master
      • To access working TM: Navigate to the Working TM tab, and select the project and database containing the working TMs. A list of TMs will be displayed. Click on a working TM to open its settings.

Adjusting TM settings for both working TMs and master TMs is similar. For more detailed information, visit the article: Translation Memory (TM).

Merge working TM to master TM

      • Open the working TM tab, click next to a working TM to open the dropdown menu.
      • Select Merge TM
      • Select the source and target languages you want to merge, then click Merge TM.

If you haven't assigned a master TM to your project or database, the working TM will be merged into the Default TM (the TM database created by default).
