The Algebras automation action provides AI-powered translation capabilities with support for over 300 languages. The action includes features like translation context and glossary to ensure customizable and accurate results. Algebras is particularly useful when localizing for non-English or less common language markets.
This article will guide you to install, configure, and use the Algebras automation action in your Gridly Automations.
This automation action is currently in beta and free to use for all tiers.

Installation
To install the Algebras automation action:
- Click
in the header to open the Integrations window.
- Open the Automation actions tab.
- Find Algebras in the list and click Subscribe > Confirm.

Only Owners, Admins, and company roles with granted permission can install new automation actions. Learn more in these documents:
API key setup
To use Algebras, you need to provide your Algebras API key. Your API key will be encrypted and securely stored.
- In Gridly homepage, select Integration settings in the left-hand side menu.
- Switch to the Algebras tab.
- Input your Algebras API key in the provided field.
- Click Save.

Configuration
In this example, we will create an Automation translating from English to Simplified Chinese with Algebras.
- Create the Automation and select a trigger. If you are not familiar with creating Automations, please refer to this article: Creating an Automation.
- Click Add Step.
- Select Algebras in the automation action list.

You can configure these settings for the Algebras automation action:
- Select trigger value to translate: Choose the column(s) you want Algebras to translate. You can also input texts directly in this field to translate.

- Description (optional): Provide a brief description for this automation action.
- Select original text language: Choose the source language from the dropdown menu.

- Select language to translate to: Choose the target language for translation from the dropdown menu.

- Select Output column to hold the result (optional): Choose a column in your Grid to store the translation results. All column types are available except: Reference, File, Formula, Boolean.
- Always update status to Up-to-date, even if the value remains unchanged: Check this option to update the status regardless of whether the translation changes.

- Translation context (optional): Provide additional context to improve translation accuracy. Input the context in the text field to give Algebras more information about the content being translated.

Click Custom Options to access advanced settings:
- Glossary ID: Specify an Algebras glossary to use for translation. Input the glossary ID to ensure consistent terminology across your translations.
- Length preservation: Enable this option to preserve text length in translation. This helps maintain formatting and layout consistency in your localized content.

When you are done configuring the settings, click Save.
Test Automation
- Enable the toggle next to the Automation name to turn it on.
- Click Test Automation. If your Automation is not turned on, Gridly will require that you turn on the Automation in the resulting pop-up message. Click on the toggle to turn on and select Test again.
- (Optional) Change the name of your Automation by clicking on the Untitled dropdown in the top-left corner.
Run Automation
Once your automation is configured and tested:
- Manual trigger: Right-click on a cell and navigate to Run Automations in the dropdown menu, then click on the Automation you want to run.

- Automatic trigger: If you've set up other triggers (like Record updated), the automation will run automatically when those conditions are met.
Cells modified by Algebras will have an indicator showing they were machine translated.
